Skylanders Giants is coming this month, promising to be one of the must-have children’s toys for Christmas and I know all about that in my house. My son has been talking about it ever since I attended a blogging conference in the summer and brought home a Skylanders Wrecking Ball character in my goody bag! The only problem being, he hasn’t been able to play with the figurine online, as we don’t have a ‘Portal of Power’!

For those who are unfamiliar, the Skylanders are a team of cartoon warriors who are frozen in time, but they come alive on screen when you place the figure onto the Portal of Power and unlock all their special abilities! This is gaming, and then some. Now, rather than just playing a computer game, the Skylanders is a set of figures that you buy and can play with like any other ‘superhero doll’ but then they also unlock the ability to play with them online by using the portal which acts as a gateway between our world and theirs! It’s a very clever idea as the toys become ‘collectables’ and children will naturally want to collect all the figurines to be able to see what superpowers each has and enjoy the virtual world they inhabit so kudos to Activision Publishing, the interactive entertainment software publishing company that created them.

For a sneak preview of a couple of the new Skylanders Giants, see below!
Bouncer:
Long ago, Bouncer was an All-Star Roboto Ball player. But when the evil Arkeyan Empire destroyed his home town and discontinued the games, he was converted into a security-bot and stationed in the mines. It was there that Bouncer encountered dozens of Mabu prisoners who remembered him fondly from his playing days. He quickly became a bit of a celebrity around the mines, and it wasn’t long before this new adulation convinced him that he could be just as much of a hero in life as he was on the field. Thus, he decided to join the Skylanders and take a stand against the evil, Arkeyan overlords.
Bouncer’s base power is shooting out the tips of his fingers. He is quite famous for various ricochet trick shots with these blasters. Bouncer can launch rockets from his shoulders, and use an aiming reticule to make them land in a very precise spot.

Crusher:
Crusher knew from the moment he put on his father’s mining helmet that his true passion in life was crushing rocks. He was fascinated with rock-lore and travelled all throughout Skylands in search of rare minerals to pulverize with his powerful hand-crafted rock hammer, which he also named Crusher. But along his travels, he discovered that the evil Arkeyan King was also searching for rocks — to melt down into weapons of war. Crusher’s fury built up like an avalanche. After all, crushing was his job! So he put aside his life’s passion and decided to use his hammer for a greater purpose – crushing Arkeyan Robots!
Crusher wields some serious firepower. His primary attack is his menacing great hammer, but he has a few tricks up his sleeve too. Those who manage to avoid a deadly blow from his hammer will have to deal with ice lasers fired from his special goggles!

My kids (14 and 7) love Skylanders! They are counting down the release of the game, and cant wait to start saving to get the figures like they did on the first game (They have all of the first game skylanders, a gitd wrecking ball my eldest won, plus a wal-mart exclusive red drill sergeant they were lucky enough to get from an american friend). My eldest even made a skylanders wall hanging in his art class! If we win this would make them smile for ever, and if we are lucky enough to win could we have it on PS3 please?

  5. I keep hearing about Skylanders from my son. Up until seeing this post I had assumed it was something he had made up!

This would get me some mummy points.

  6. My son’s best friend has a gazillion skylanders and Dexter doesn’t have any. We both use this as an excuse for us to visit his friend so he can play with his favourite Skylanders, and I can see my friend and eat cake. Win/win.

:( It is pretty sad that only people in the Uk can enter because my son is a huge fan but we are australians and we can’t afford to buy anymore skylander’s so I guess his dream is over. Well thanks for reading.

Could I have xbox 360 if I win please. My son is the biggest skylanders fan ever because he has told santa so it must be true. He loves his skylanders and has loads of rare ones or so he tells his friends. He even helps clean the house so he can earn extra pocket money to buy more skylanders.

My little brother (7) is such a huge Skylanders fan, he’s been going around the house asking to borrow money from everyone so he can buy the starter pack for his Xbox 360. Not even joking!

He didn’t know about it till last month but now he’s going mad for it, and all he wants from Santa is this one thing. The only problem is he’s been fixed on WWE for the past few years so we loaded up on WWE stuff from Santa! He even wants to dress up as Swarm for Halloween, although I could only find a Spyro costume.

I would absolutely love to win this for him (for the Xbox 360),so fingers crossed!
