This is one of those phrases I use a lot, generally because it is the way things are. It is another way of saying ‘go with the flow’ or ‘c’est la vie’ I suppose. It is what it is, matter of fact, black and white, I accept the state of affairs.

Interestingly enough, this is the style of photography I like too. Things as they are. Over Christmas I dug out my old SLR camera that I’ve had since I was a teen. Here is a picture- I love it. The picture is so retro!

My SLR

I briefly dabbled in creative photography in my teens, but never got very good at it. I’d like to give it a try again now, now I have more patience, more understanding of the world and more motivation to stick with it! So I’m learning my way around this camera, and how it all works. When I dug out my camera bag, I found a used roll of film, so I’m taking this in to be developed. These days as everyone is digital, there are so few places to get a roll of film developed- my local chemist stopped accepting them a year ago! But I have found somewhere so I’m interested to see what is on the film. Nothing too cringeworthy I hope.

Photography buffs will know that this camera, the Praktica, isn’t a flashy top of the line model. I think it is more of a mass produced, low end product, but at least I can learn on it. It has a lovely clunky shutter to press and needs mechanical winding on each time the shutter is released, so there is something quite romantic about its old fashioned-ness.

Now I just need something to shoot….
